The Skin + Hair Clinic specializes in FUE (follicular unit extraction) hair transplants, which transfers individual hair follicles (from follicles which are biologically immune to balding) to the balding area. Dr. Joy Kumari is a renouned FUE hair transplant surgeon and having 8 years experience in Hair Transplantation and Vaser Liposuction. She has already done many FUE Hair Transplant and Vaser Liposuction surgeries in her career. The most advanced technologies are used for hair transplantation in this clinic. WHAT IS HAIR TRANSPLANT?
In this new generation people are having a very common problem that is hair loss. Every third person is suffering from this problem. Hair Transplantation is a method to regain the natural hair on head which actually does not have any complication. In this technique follicles are moved from the donor part which is the sides and back of your scalp to the recipient area which is mostly top of the head.
This is possible because a man usually loses his hair in the advanced male pattern, which actually keeps a band of hair around his head’s sides. We remove the hair follicular units from the area and graft on the recipient area. This procedure does not affect its genetic properties and consequently the hairs grow naturally for the entire life of the patient.
WHAT IS FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT METHOD?
- Follicular units may contain one, two, three or more hairs, and our FUE procedure is a minimally invasive process, transferring individual follicles without using sutures, and without leaving a linear scar in the donor area, as other techniques do.
- FUE is suited to any type of male pattern baldness, and – in cases where the donor area has insufficient stock for transplanting – additional grafts can be drawn from different parts of the body, including the chest and back.
- FUE has the advantage of being scarless, stitchless and painless surgery, and can also be used to restore eyelashes, eyebrows, beard hair, chest hair, and pubic hair, and to fill in scars, including those from face-lifts or previous hair transplants.
HOW DOES FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT WORK?
The FUE hair transplant expert extracts hair follicles from the donor are on your head during the transplant. Usually follicles are extracted from the back of the patient’s head with the help of a special 1mm diameter punch. These extracted follicles are safely transferred to the recipient area on patient’s scalp so that they grow naturally. WHEN YOU NEED THIS FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT?
You will need this FUE hair transplant when you experience hair thinning, receding hair or baldness. There may be many reasons behind these hair loss problems such as baldness caused by the appearance of the hormone DHT, or dihydrotestosterone. A powerful male sex hormone, it causes both men and women to lose their hair due to the hair follicle’s sensitivity to DHT, which cuts off the blood supply to the follicle, resulting in their miniaturisation, and consequent hair loss.
Balding in men commonly involves patchy hair loss classed as alopecia Areata. The more severe class is alopecia totalis; the loss of all of the head’s hair. Furthermore, the most extreme form, which causes the loss of all hair from both the head and the body, known as and alopecia universalise.
Yes, they’re for life. The implanted hairs are taken from areas that are immune from balding (like the back of the head, and other parts of the body), so they won’t fall out.
No… We each have approximately 100,000 hairs on our scalp, and we generally transplant between 1,500 and 5,000 of them (up to a maximum of 5,000), so it’s a tiny proportion of your overall hair.
When you have a FUE transplant we can prescribe you medicine that will help prevent further baldness, but we can’t guarantee that you won’t start to lose hair in other areas. You may need another surgery in between seven and ten years if other areas start to bald. The drug Finasteride can be used to inhibit the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), one of the main causes of male pattern baldness.
We’d recommend you take between one and two weeks off work. You won’t see any scarring as a result of a FUE transplant, but the grafts do need careful looking after. You’ll need to wear a loose cap to avoid extremes of heat and cold on them, and they will bleed if they become dislodged. We recommend you sleep on your back with a travel pillow for support for the first week, after which you’ll be up and running again, but the new transplants need care for approximately a month.
You’ll have a long-lasting local anaesthesia before the procedure begins, which lasts for between eight and ten hours, so you won’t feel a thing.
It depends on the size of the area we’re transplanting, but we transplant between 1,500 and 4,000 hairs in a day-long session, which lasts for approximately six to ten hours.
Yes, FUE is also suitable for eyebrow transplants.
